Portugal Games in San Francisco

This was the first time that Portugal had a Pavillion at the GDC, but that was not the only notable achievement for the Portuguese game developers industry at this year’s edition of the world's most relevant game development event.

Last month, several Portuguese companies made a notable appearance in San Francisco!

As a precursor to the Game Developers Conference, the Portuguese Game Developers Association (APVP), AICEP, Anybrain, and Unicorn Factory Lisbon organized a networking event at the Consulate General of Portugal in San Francisco on March 18th. This gathering brought together known faces in the global gaming industry, fostering a spirit of collaboration and innovation.

The event served as a unique platform for professionals to connect, share insights, and explore potential partnerships. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with leading figures from the Portuguese gaming scene, gaining valuable exposure to emerging trends and technologies.

In a landmark moment for the Portuguese gaming industry, the first pavilion dedicated to Portuguese games has been launched at this year’s Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. Powered by the eGames Lab consortium, this pavilion marks Portugal’s growing influence in the global gaming market.

The pavilion is not just a display of individual talents but a testament to the collaborative spirit of Portugal’s gaming sector. Among the companies participating were Yacooba Labs, Redcatpig, WOWsystems, Fapptory, Footar, Infinity Games, Walkme Mobile, dc1ab, Anybrain, Didimo, Zarc Attack, Whales and Games, Mr. Kite, and Dino Boss.

In addition to the “Games from Portugal” pavilion, Portugal distinguished itself in various aspects.

At the Independent Games Festival, which takes place at the Game Developers Conference, our members, Astral Shift Pro, were selected as finalists in the category of Excellence in Visual Arts with their game, Little Goody Two Shoes.

One Way Eleven was selected to compete in the GDC Pitch, presenting a live pitch of their game, Hanno, on the second day of the competition. Ten game studios had the opportunity to pitch their games in front of an audience. The goal is to assist participants in refining their game-pitching skills by receiving feedback from a panel of judges.

The Game Developers Conference will be back next year, and we can’t wait to see what Portugal has to offer!
