Uniting the Industry and Policymakers

On October 22, the Portuguese video games industry gathered at the Parliament House for a special edition of Game Break, co-organized by Gaming Hub by Unicorn Factory Lisboa and APVP.

The event brought together more than 100 participants, including studios, associations, universities, and public entities from across the country, in an open dialogue between the industry and policymakers about the sector’s growth and future in Portugal.

During the session, Diogo Rato, Executive Director of APVP, presented updated data highlighting the industry’s expansion: over 160 active studios currently operating in Portugal, with combined revenues expected to surpass €100 million in 2024, and an average growth rate above 60% over the past five years.

The exhibition area featured several APVP members and partners. Digitality Games presented its most recent work, alongside emerging studios Barking Beagle Studios and Red Pine Studios, who showcased their latest projects. Academic and research institutions such as Universidade Lusófona, HEI-Lab, Instituto Superior Técnico, and GAIPS/INESC-ID also participated, together with associations including AEPDV and DeVuego Portugal.

Beyond presentations and networking, the event also opened discussions about new ideas for interactive installations inside the Parliament, exploring the use of immersive technologies to make the space more accessible and engaging for visitors.

This special edition of Game Break marked another important milestone in strengthening the connection between the Portuguese video games ecosystem and public institutions, reinforcing the industry’s growing presence and relevance in the national innovation landscape.
