The first Iberian Games Summit, co-organized by APVP alongside AEVI, Indie X, Indie Dev Day, Bilbao International Festival, and others, unfolded as a great networking opportunity for Portuguese and Spanish game developers.
In addition to some of the games in Indie X – Portuguese Selection curated by APVP, the floor of Gamiberica also welcomed other Portuguese titles from indie developers and game development students, as well as games from Spanish studios.
Additionally, Gamiberica hosted three panels that discussed some of the challenges of the game development industry, particularly in the two countries. Diogo Rato, APVP’s Director, participated in the inaugural panel entitled “Entering the Iberian Lobby,” where industry and associations delved into the challenges and opportunities of establishing game studios in the Iberian Peninsula. Among the panellists were Saverio Caporusso (from Troglobytes Games), Jose Maria Moreno (from AEVI), Tiago Sousa (from AEPDV) and Adriana Faria (from Saber Portugal), renowned for the Dakar series.
The summit featured two additional panels: one explored the purpose and impact of game development incubators, offering valuable insights for aspiring developers. The other panel focused on the challenges faced by indie studios, providing a roadmap for navigating the evolving indie scene.
APVP desires this year’s Gamiberica to be the first of many gatherings to provide the needed venue for the studios from Portugal and Spain to network and showcase their games, offering a glimpse into the future of game development on the Iberian Peninsula.
